Regulations for Amsterdam P+R
P+Rs are parking spaces located on the outskirts of the city, where one can conveniently switch to public transport. You will then arrive at the Dam within half an hour. You may park in one of these spaces at a reduced rate, provided you comply with the following regulations.
Regulations governing entitlement to the P+R parking fee reduction
You should be able to find Amsterdam’s P+Rs easily by simply following the P+R signs alongside the A1 and A2 motorways and the A10 Ring Road.
During major events at the ArenA and Olympic stadium, these car parks are solely accessible to guests in possession of a parking card issued by the organisers. The P+R scheme is not applicable at such times. Traffic officers will direct you to alternative facilities. Please click on the ArenA or the Olympic stadium websites to establish whether such events are being held. This helps to avoid disappointment.
Otherwise, all locations are accessible seven days a week and 24 hours a day. You can therefore exit the car park whenever you wish.
1. Take a parking card when entering the car park.
Please do not use a credit card at the entrance, as you will then not be entitled to a discount.
2. Surrender your card to the attendant and ask for P+R cards. The attendant will encode your parking card and give you a maximum of 5 return tickets for the train (NS) or the tram/bus/metro (GVB).
3. At Sloterdijk station and the Olympic stadium, you also have the option of borrowing a maximum of two bicycles free of charge instead of using public transport.
4. Should prefer to use your own bicycle to travel into the city, then you will remain eligible for the reduced P+R parking fee. Please report to the P+R desk with your bicycle, and the operator will adapt your parking card appropriately.
5. On surrendering the coupon form the guide to the attendant, holders of an I Amsterdam card will be issued an exit card valid for 24, 36 or 72 hours. They already have a card with which to travel aboard GVB transport after all.
6. Stamp the GVB ticket on embarking on the journey into the city. The NS ticket already bears a date stamp.
7. Visit the city, but do not throw away your tickets!
In the event of your failure to use your public transport tickets correctly, your right to a discount will be withdrawn and you will have to pay the normal fee.
8. Stamp the GVB or NS ticket on embarking on the return journey.
The GVB tickets are valid for a maximum of 96 hours. The NS remain valid until 04.00 hours the next morning.
9. Surrender your parking card and the NS or GVB tickets at the P+R desk. The attendant will re-encode your parking card. You can pay him or her using PIN or a credit card. Cash payments can be made at the ticket machines only.
10. The P+R fee of € 6.00 per 24 hours remains applicable for a maximum of four consecutive days, or 96 hours. Once the 96 hours have elapsed, you will be obliged to pay the normal parking fee. Holders of an I Amsterdam card are also obliged to pay the normal parking fee once their exit ticket has expired.
