Drivers of electric cars in Amsterdam now can have their vehicle charged within thirty minutes. Today, the municipality of Amsterdam and Essent opened their first public fast charger at the Europaboulevard, near the South Axis and the city ring. Cars will be charged with green power.
To take advantage of the quick charger near the Novotel, a special pass must be requested at Essent. For this you pay € 8 per month. Charging costs € 4 per time (Normally € 8 per time, untill 31 March 2012 you'll get 50% discount). During the charge, the drivers can have lunch or coffee in the brasserie at the Novotel. Here they can make free use of the Internet.
National network
Eric Wiebes, alderman of the City of Amsterdam for Transport and Air Quality : "In Amsterdam we encourage businesses that make the most kilometres in the city to drive electric. In that way they contribute to cleaner air in the city. This quick charger makes it more attractive to switch to electric. Because you can quickly charge the range is no longer a problem and more rides in the city can be made electrically. And not just in the city. Electric driving does not stop at the municipal boundaries. Together with other municipalities and private parties we are working on a nationwide network of public quick chargers."
Another boost
"The public fast charging is an important milestone which ensures that electrical transport in the Netherlands gets another boost. Cars like the Nissan Leaf and the Mitsubishi iMiev are suitable for fast loading, and their number is growing steadily. Thus, more and more cars will be able to ful charge within 30 minutes." says Colin Ward, manager of Electric Transport at Essent.
